“….four one-legged men!”

Gary Corbin (NYC) Theatre – English

"….four one-legged men is a multi-award winning and critically acclaimed one-man play written/perfromed by Gary Corbin and directed by William Martin. This unique play consists of four vignettes that depict four distinct characters from different backgrounds, seasons and eras: In the winter of 2005, a guilt-ridden writer is visiting his dying foster grandfather who is in a nursing home; In the Spring of 1959, a father is fighting his estranged wife regarding visitation rights to his toddler-aged daughter; In the Summer of 1979, a gay male is on his way to a Fourth of July costume party but falls and breaks his artifical leg at a remote bus stop; In the Fall of 1969 a Vietnam vet returns home after a recent amputation. He refuses to believe his comrade in 'Nam was killed. He also has delusions of realizing the aspirations he had of becoming a professional dancer. This was before "the Eagle" abducted him and placed him in 'Nam.

Larry Lit of New York Theatre Wire raves: "Only a master storyteller can keep an audience focused on the subject and object of the oration. It's rare when it happens to you, you remember. Gary Corbin's stellar one man performance is that kind of performance." Ron Ehmke of The Buffalo Infringement Festival raves: "This is raw, unvarnished theatre of the best kind!" Backstage Magazine declares "His final dance on one leg must be seen to be believed!"

Downer St.

Downer St. (Owen Sound, Ontario)

Welcome to the neighbourhood if you look out the windows to your left and right you will see the crumbling skeletal structures that can be loosely referred to as houses in each of these houses lives a monster chained and hungry for blood it's a big hit on Halloween... the sounds emanating from the skewed boarded up house with the ever watchful eye at the end of the street is all that keeps these creatures from busting loose and ravaging the planet these are the songs of Downer St. which is the result of five crazy fuckers who are bent on causing those who listen to them to bleed profusely from their ears only stopping the bloodshed long enough to allow you to push your brains back into your skull with a pencil, your finger or some other small object otherwise not recommended for inner ear penetration. It is said that knowledge is power but if you ask me ignorance is bliss so don't be a slave show some pride and unreservedly refuse to suffer in silence. For more www.myspace.com/downerst.

Humanifesto (Montreal) Music – English

Tired of armchair activism? Tired of preachers not practicing what they preach? Don’t fret, the boys from Montreal political punk rock group, Humanifesto, are tired of it all too and they’re not afraid of saying so. Aside from a brilliantly energetic live performance, the songs on their first full-length, A Declaration of Intent, is littered with aggressive socio-political material touching on subjects ranging from animal-rights, war, homophobia, sexism and the hypocrisy of left-wing propaganda. If that’s enough, they make a point of donating a portion of their album sales to charitable organizations such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Doctors Without Borders.

Scheduled to leave on their first month-long tour across Quebec and Ontario right after their appearance at Montreal’s Infringement Festival, Humanifesto promise to keep dishing out what you love to hate; the god-awful, honest to goodness and unmasked truth. [The Infamous (8 song E.P) is due to be released in early summer 2006] –“Stop reciting the verses of ignorance.”

Isabelle Larrivée

moo

The Magic Stick

Sarah C. Albu (Montreal) Theatre - English

So many fairy tales are aimed at teaching children not to be taken advantage of by “bad men”. As a product of this, responsibility and blame when dealing in cases of rape are often at least partially placed onto the victim’s shoulders. Dressing provocatively, trusting “prematurely” and travelling alone in dangerous places are all factors that warrant the response “S/he was asking for it.” This story speaks from another angle, as it teaches about respecting each other’s bodies and controlling our own desires. A twist on the traditional anti-rape warning-tale using voice, movement and props.

Written in 1606, and scheduled for re-enactment on November 14th, 2006, this play is extremely racist against First Nations Peoples.
