Originally from Newfoundland, but having grown up on Vancouver Island, Mille was raised in a family of musicians. She was surrounded by many instruments which inspired her to start creating music on her own. As a traveler, she is exploring the musical universe in all its forms, and combines multiple techniques. Moving to Montreal in 2008, she started to play shows in bars and small venues. Her music is a soundtrack to her perception of the world around her and a reflection of her imagination. It is a mix of fairy tales and folk songs which will make your mind wander to a different place for a few moments.

Autoverse, officially formed in August 2008, is a mix of post no-age indie sounds. Hailing from Western New York, their recent release, Decency in Kind, has a science fiction tinge in its look at society’s lack of acceptance, or decency. The desire for escape is not as real as the message though, even in its irony.

Elgin-Skye McLaren lives in Montreal where she writes poems, songs and lilting love letters. Armed with an electric guitar and a looping pedal, she plays lo-fi indie-pop with a style reminiscent of artists such as Regina Spektor, Bjork, and Braids. Elgin-Skye’s politeness and humble disposition betray her booming, buoyant voice. Her songs are thoughtful reflections on love, loss, and woodland creatures. Her sets may include, but are not limited to: clapping, whistling, cooing, singing, stomping.

My work is the fruit of my tree. All gesture born in intention. All intention born in love. For me to work, I must remove my mind from its churning orbit. I work from within, my body is the negotiator of my movement, my forgotten dance that is my own creative voice. Symbol, color and movement. These are the driving forces of the work. Born in abstraction, forms emerge to tell a story. Painting and Spoken Word By Evaly.

Once upon a time
there lived a poet
he wrote and wrote
about all he saw
until one day he’d seen enough of the bad things,
and on that day,
he did rebel.
he gathered others
to hear his words,
and they in turn,
were heard by him
and the crowd grew conscious
and the crowd rebelled.

I paint because it lets me simply be. In this state of being, I have the freedom to let my intuition roam into the painting’s territory. Because being the painter of my chosen surface does not grant me sole conviction or authority over its fate. I can’t ever plan a painting into being, because to me, painting is, by being a form of pure expression, defined by the very search for it that makes up the process of painting. This process involves a dialogue between the progressive build up of paint marks as they meet the surface of the painting, and how the surface responds to these marks. The surface proposes what should come next and I negotiate with it until a painting is created.
The combination of color, texture and movement make up the identity of my paintings. What they emote comes from my intuition, so the energy is raw, complex and baroque. My paintings evoke drama, and it’s inevitable, since it comes from the most unhindered, ungovernable place inside of me. I see humanity as mysterious, wavering, unpredictable and beautiful, and I suppose that is ultimately what I want to share with my paintings.
